Rockfall Almost Killed Jean Dempsey, Here's Her Story

30 years ago, Jean Dempsey's life changed in an instant. In the blink of an eye, Jean went from being one of the world's best female rock climbers, to lying in a hospital bed; paralyzed, in a coma, with a massively fractured skull.

A result of rock fall many claim to have been caused by the selfish, arrogant, actions of two other climbers, the accident forever changed Jean’s life. How has Jean moved on?...How has she persevered?...What does life look like today?…And what does the future hold?

Supported by interviews with climbing legends of the past and present this is the inspirational story of Jean’s road back to life and sanity after a horrible climbing accident.

Jean's partner Eric Doub said: "She learned to climb when she was 15 years old through the Colorado Mountain Club. One of the top female climbers in the country during the 1970s, she was a climbing ranger in the Tetons in 1978 and 1979. She put up the first all-female free ascents of the Naked Edge (1978) and the Diamond on Longs Peak (1980). Since her 1981 accident, Jean not only continued to rock climb but also completed ascents of all 54 of Colorado's Fourteeners. She had a career as a physical therapist for 25 years, with over half of those years in cancer care. In retirement, she works tirelessly as a community climbing advocate and open space volunteer, and also shares her time, energy and love with hospice patients in Boulder."
