About Paul
Robinson is widely recognized as one of the most influential American boulderers of his generation. Specializing in high-difficulty, cutting-edge climbs, he has pushed standards in both outdoor bouldering and competitive climbing. From his early breakthroughs as a teenager to major first ascents around the world, Robinson has built a reputation for precision, power, and a deep commitment to the craft of climbing.
Robinson’s ascent through the sport began to attract national attention in 2007, when he made the third ascent of the benchmark problem Jade (V14) in Rocky Mountain National Park and became only the second climber ever to flash a V13 with Nagual. His competitive results that year and the next cemented his standing: he placed second in the 2007 American Bouldering Series National Championships before returning in 2008 to win the title. That season he also reached the podium at the IFSC Bouldering World Cup in Vail, finishing in third place. In the following years he remained a consistent finalist at major events, including another top-six finish in Vail in 2013.

While Robinson’s competition résumé is strong, his greatest impact has come from his outdoor accomplishments. In 2008 he completed the second ascent of Terremer, a V15 in Hueco Tanks regarded as one of the most difficult problems in the United States. Two years later, on March 30, 2010, he completed the first ascent of Lucid Dreaming in the Buttermilks of California, at the time among the hardest highball boulders ever attempted. His continued exploration took him across Europe and South Africa, where he repeated and established many notable lines including Monkey Wedding (V15), The Big Short (V14), Black Eagle (V14), and several other high-grade problems. In 2011 he added further significant repeats such as Trip Hop (V15), The Story of Two Worlds (V15), and Angama (V15). By May 2020, Robinson reached an extraordinary personal milestone: completing 1,000 boulder problems graded V11 or harder, a testament to both his longevity and his prolific output as a climber.
Today, Paul Robinson stands as one of the most accomplished boulderers of the modern era. His record blends competition success, historic ascents, and a sustained dedication to seeking new challenges in climbing areas around the world. Through his achievements, he has helped define what is possible in contemporary bouldering and continues to inspire climbers across generations.
