Adam Ondra Climbs Three Iconic Lines in Italy’s Aosta Valley

Czech climbing icon Adam Ondra has once again demonstrated his world-class mastery on rock, with a string of remarkable ascents in Italy’s Aosta Valley this week. Climbing in Gaby and Champorcher, Ondra completed several of the region’s hardest boulders, describing the experience as “some of the best days of my life in bouldering.”

On Wednesday, Ondra tackled Ziqqurat V15 in Gaby, completing the climb on his third attempt. “I went all in for the flash,” he explained, crediting beta tips from Italian climber Marcello Bombardi but admitting with good humor that “I should really improve my toehooking game.” The following day in Champorcher, he added Gliese 581 V14, Wheel of Champo V13, and Ghost Ship V14 to his tick list — flashing both Gliese 581 and Ghost Ship. The latter, he said, “was an absolutely freak moment… one of the most epic fights I have ever had in complete disbelief.”

Reflecting on his ascent of Ghost Ship, Ondra noted that he had rappelled from the top to clean the dirty finishing holds before his successful attempt, acknowledging that this made the climb a “less-pure flash.” Still, the achievement stands as one of his most impressive bouldering performances to date. He also praised fellow climber Niky Ceria, who established all three of the boulders, and mentioned that the ascents were filmed by Crimpfilms for an upcoming video supported by La Sportiva on his YouTube channel.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest climbers in history, Adam Ondra continues to push the boundaries of the sport with a blend of precision, humility, and passion that has come to define his career.
